The original, by A. and G. Amati, 1615, is property of the Stauffer Foundation, and it was entrusted in 1996 to the Collection of Musical Instruments in the Municipal Palace of Cremona.
The label bears the name of both the brothers Amati, but the viola was made by Gerolamo, since Antonio died in 1607.
The viola is now in modern mountings, but we can find information on the lost measurements of the neck in a very similar instrument by the Amati brothers in original mountings, now preserved in the Collection of the Galleria Estense in Modena. This instrument has excellent balance of tone and ease of response.
Body length 41,1.
